Ben Nevis and Glencoe: A Two-Day Highland Walking Experience

This two-day guided adventure offers an immersive introduction to the Scottish Highlands, combining the challenge of climbing the country’s highest mountain with a journey through one of its most historically significant valleys. Travelling with Up 'n about Scotland, guests experience both Scotland’s dramatic landscapes and its compelling past.

Day One: Ben Nevis Summit Experience
The tour departs Glasgow at 7:00am, heading north through classic Highland scenery on a direct journey to Glen Nevis (approximately 2.5 hours).
From here, the ascent of Ben Nevis begins. Rising 1,345 metres above sea level, Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Scotland and Britain. Formed from the remains of an ancient volcano, it has long attracted walkers from around the world seeking to conquer this iconic peak.
The climb typically takes between seven and nine hours, depending on conditions and group pace. On clear days, hikers are rewarded with sweeping views across the Highlands, while reaching the summit delivers a strong sense of achievement. After descending, the group travels a short distance to Fort William to your accommodation that you will have prebooked.
The evening is free to relax and enjoy local hospitality, with opportunities to sample Highland food and drink and reflect on the day’s achievement.

Day Two: The Lost Valley of Glencoe

The second day begins with a 9:00am departure from Fort William, travelling south for approximately 30 minutes to Glencoe. Surrounded by towering mountains and dramatic ridgelines, the setting provides a striking contrast to the previous day’s summit challenge.
The route leads into the Lost Valley (Coire Gabhail), a secluded glen historically used by Clan MacDonald to hide stolen cattle from rival clans. The valley is also associated with one of the most tragic events in Scottish history — the Massacre of Glencoe in 1692 — when members of Clan MacDonald were killed by government soldiers who had been staying with them as guests.
Today, the Lost Valley offers a powerful combination of natural beauty and historical significance. The walk takes approximately two to three hours and provides excellent views along with a strong sense of stepping into Scotland’s past.
After returning to the car park, the group begins the return journey south, arriving back in Glasgow later that day.

An Unforgettable Highland Journey
This two-day walking tour offers an ideal balance of physical challenge, scenic splendour, and cultural insight. From standing on the summit of Ben Nevis to exploring the atmospheric landscapes of Glencoe, participants gain a deeper appreciation of Scotland’s wild terrain and turbulent history.
Perfect for those seeking a short yet rewarding Highland adventure, this experience delivers both iconic landmarks and lesser-known stories, creating lasting memories of Scotland’s most dramatic landscapes.
