Up 'n About Scotland website was set up in 2021. We started out arranging hiking trips mainly day trips to climb the Munros around Scotland. A Munro is a hill over 3000 feet in Scotland. Teaching navigation to adults and children were some of the first events we arranged. Since then we have also included visiting historic places and well known attractions around the country. We added a 9 seat minivan to supply our own transport three years ago and this has proved popular as its still small enough to get to the very remote places which are less busy. Each year our customer numbers increase as we get recommended and in return positive reviews appear on Google and Trip Advisor.

The business was started by John Toms who moved to Scotland from Ireland back in 2008. John moved into the coach tour industry and travelled all over Scotland, UK and Ireland plus parts of northern Europe. After climbing all 282 of the Munros between 2011 and 2015 I decided to train as a mountain leader through Mountain Training Scotland which now allows me to take customers on any hikes in Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England. If we have to bring in other guides whether for hillwalking or sightseeing we make sure they have the right qualifications and experience. Always make sure your guide has the appropriate insurance before taking you onto a mountain. Some times John is joined by his wife Gill on the trips, Gill has a wealth of knowledge about Scotland and her home town of Glasgow.
